Zero conditional is used to express facts or things which are generally true. We also talk about Scientific facts here. The zero conditional uses ‘if’ or ‘when’ in if clause.
For instance: Everyone gets tired when they work.
Every conditional sentence consists of two clauses: Main clause and if clause.
Form: Zero Conditional uses Simple Present Tense in both the clauses.
Structure: If + Simple Present Tense, Simple Future Tense.
|If Clause (Condition)||Main Clause(Result)|
|If + Simple Present Tense||Simple Present Tense|
|If this situation happens||that situation happens.|
Note: You can change the order of the clauses but remember: If you use “if clause” at the beginning of the sentence, comma must be used otherwise do not use comma.
- If you do not water plants, they die. (Comma is used here because “if Clause” is used first)
- Plants die if you do not water them. (Comma is not used here because “Result clause” is used first)
